I was about to post some stuff for sale on Craigslist and noticed some ads that were created about 3 hours ago and there seems to be several. Some say found chickens and giving away. Some say selling for $5 and all seem really sketchy. None give a location and some do not give contact information but wanted to bring it to everyone's attention in case they see one that there are several with different chickens and to be very careful. I have a degree in Computer Science and one in Criminal Justice (Over Achiever) and I can be a little paranoid but something just doesn't seem right about these ads. Here is one:

When someone doesn't want to state where they are located that is a big red flag. When they create several ads with different chickens saying stuff like, they lay too many eggs, sounds like a trap. One even says, 2 of these 4 hens lay good eggs. What? Also they placed all of these different ads in seconds. If you reply to it they could give you a virus. If you notice sometimes you can reply to some ads and start getting crazy emails on your email that is connected to CL. I swear this world is getting more crooked everyday! The first ad seemed cool and the chicken addict in me wants those chickens, after seeing 5 of them with different chickens but similar stories, that is a big red flag.

I was trying to find the one ad. It looks like some big chickens that are Mille Fleur colored. Now I don't see it.

A lot of times it seems to be somebody screwing with someone else. Prank of sorts. "Hey, wouldn't it be funny to get a bunch of people to call so-and-so day and night, trying to get a great deal on _______?"

Could be like GAM said or could be someone that is lonely wanting someone to call. HAHA!

Never know these days. It could be someone wanting to kill, rob, or could even be someone that is wanting to sell something and trying to get people in with free chickens. My thinking is someone from a company trying to get peoples email or contacts to send a bunch of spam to.

Could be someone that found a bunch of chickens (in someone's coop) and is trying to sell some and give others away. Could also be a couple going through a breakup and one is trying to get rid of the others chickens.
 
Pricing Question for the local (Atlanta) area:
I'd like to cycle out some of my hens (some 1 year old, some 2 year old's) - all hatchery stock. They are all good layers, I just don't want them when they are 3 or 4 and turn into pets. I'd prefer to sell them rather than turn them into soup and figure they still have more value than meat (especially when I can buy a roasted chicken at Costco for $4.99).

I'd like to sell these late summer when my new chicks start laying (but hopefully before the molt). Anyone have an idea of what these girls should sell for? I'll probably sell some to friends and don't want to over price (but also want to avoid giving them away).

- Buff Brahma - 1 yr
- RHR - 1 yr
- White Leghorn - 2 yrs
- Americaunas - 2 yrs

Thanks for any/all advice.

to me this is the perfect age for you to sell them as laying hens for $15-20 a piece. They still have a couple years to lay for someone, and you're rotating in new ones. I plan on doing this exact thing this fall. I plan to hatch out what I want for my laying hens next year probably in late August/early Sept, and by spring they'll be laying. I'll keep the few one year olds I'll have by then and sell off the rest.

I also have a dozen australorp/leghorn cross eggs incubating to hatch the 20th, and I'm going to grow most of these out and see what they lay. Hoping for light brown to pink looking
 
I was just wondering the same thing. I have 20 chicks but I don't have room for all of them plus my layer. I thought of getting rid of a couple layers later this year.

I was thinking along the same lines - but probably closer to $10 for the leghorn and potentially higher for the Buff Brahma (seems' like buff brahmas carry a bit of a premium - beautiful bird).

the thing with leghorns tho, they lay almost EVERY day, that makes them worth more to me, even if they are about half through their laying cycle.
