YO GEORGIANS! :)

Alright knowing nothing of genetics and how egg genes are passed i have a question. Also barring the obvious answer of whichever one makes the better rooster since that will also be something i keep an eye on. Anyways my question is this. I have in my new flock a Marans, a Cream Legbar, a Black Isbar, a Bielefelder, two Jersey Giants, and two showgirls. My current two roosters that are growing out are a Blue Isbar and a Cream Legbar x Marsh Daisy. Which one of these roosters would provide the better egg colors in the future? I understand the cross is a difficult question since it came from a Blue and a Tan egg layer. Just was hoping there was an easy answer involving genetics to help guide me. Or there's always the wild card, grow out the Buff Orpington in the brooder and have a very large dominant male.

Well, I may be able to come Saturday! The wedding is scheduled for 6:30pm and they already have the tent set up. They have a catering company who will put up all the tables, etc. Randy is still not well, so he will stay here and take care of any last minute things. I will be back in time to help with the wedding! For all you who I am holding chicks for, will you be at this function this weekend? Should I bring the chicks? Let me know. And, am I picking up the pair of CCL from someone? I need to make a list of who gets what and who I am getting something from! And, so I don't have to go back and search for the address, could someone PM me all the info! Very excited!

To shut her up so she'll let the others in to lay. The Orpingtons seem to be high maintenance as to where they lay. Domino doesn't care. She'll lay an egg in the run or on the coop floor if she has to. So with Sophia gone broody & the other 2 refusing to lay, I'm getting one little marans egg a day.

edit to add: or would that just make her more irritated if they go in? There are 3 nest boxes, so if she'd shut the heck up, the others would use them.
In my experience, broody is broody. Eggs, no eggs, chicks, no chicks. They're just as determined no matter what's under them. Well, maybe more hateful once they have chicks out and about in the flock, but..

WHOLE. LEE. CRAP!!

These eBay Cochin eggs that I lost ALL hope in.. The ones that only four made it to lockdown, and two of those died today? Well, I left the other two just almost jokingly. And LOOK at the size of that pip! Oh, I HOPE this hatches. But then I hope the other one does too.. It's still alive but that egg is double-pointed-end, ugh.

The Isbar carries 2 copies of the blue egg gene so even if you breed it with a brown egg layer the offspring could still lay colored eggs. Since the mix carries 1 copy of the blue and 1 of the brown and you breed it to a brown egg layer, chances are the offspring will lay mostly brown. So I vote for the Isbar.. I am actually starting 2 flocks of Isbars, 1st import and 2nd import. So I have researched the crap out of them.

That's what i was leaning towards myself but also because of the fact Blue Isbar roosters are gorgeous. Just wish it was a hair larger bird.

Boo! Nobody responded. I need the info on this Saturday. Address, time. I think I can come! Also need to know what chicks I can bring......who is going to be there that is getting chicks from me????

They are very nice looking for sure, but not a large breed. Supposed to be friendly toward people so that is a plus. As far as breeding, size should not be an issue. My best hen is from a bantam RIR rooster and a BIG BCM hen. The BCM wasn't even the largest hen and those bigger even had fertile eggs. HA! The Isbar is about the size of a Speckled Sussex or Leghorn so it is still a good size, just not GIANT.

Would it be terribly cruel to stick a ceraminc decoy egg under broody Sophia? She's a crotchety mess snd I don't have an efficient way to break her.
This is what I was told about broodies, it is hormones and if you can get her but to cool down, ok guys don't got there then it will break the cycle, that is why it is best to put her in a wire cage where air flow can go under her or I have heard people putting ice in the nest box, does it work, according to the ones who use these methods, but dunno
