YO GEORGIANS! :)

So, what is the last thing you want to hear from potential chick buyers?

"I need to come and get more chicks from you because something keeps getting all my chicks!"

Ugh!  And, why do I want to sell these adorable sweet chicks that I've babied and loved to you????  So that something will get them because you don't want to take the trouble to build something predator proof?  Even one of my best friends lost the chocolate runner duck I gave her because they don't cover their run or enclose it and many times they just leave them out all night because they are too tired to do it......so something came over the fence and killed him and their other duck.  They have lost lots of chickens to predators.  (I hope she's not reading this!)

But, I can't tell you how many times I hear that statement!

BTW, where is everyone??????
The first time I had chicks something broke into the run and killed all of them I then went over that coop and run with a fine tooth comb . So I will give one time but not over and over

Hey Papa, how come you've been on BYC 2 years more than me and I have over 1600 more posts than you???? Don't answer that!
well the easy answer to that is, in 2011 when I got hurt and lost my house and had to move into a rental in town, I had to get rid of my chickens so I quit hanging around. We didn't really have a 'good group of friends' on here then either, at least I wasn't close enough to anyone really to make me keep coming back around, esp since it reminded me of not being able to have chickens....

oh, that, and you talk WAY more than I do

How's everyone's eggs they got at the swap?

I'm a nosy bugger but I've had nothing but unluckilyness with my hens today (they are all ok) my only bantam is laying thin and rubber eggs for a few days and I'm just upset about it)

she needs more calcium, do you have any oyster shell in there? I keep a separate small hanging feeder in each coop with oyster shell for them. They seem to get it when they need it. I haven't had a soft shelled egg in quite a while now

my broody mama is on day nine sitting on the eggs, I'll candle tomorrow night and see how it's going

on another note, I've managed to get the whole back line fence up. Today's run was a bit easier to pull than saturdays run. I haven't said much about it since I started, but I have learned that my old ford tractor will bury a post hole digger auger deeper than the lift will pull it back out when there is a stump close by. And that trying to force it will blow the seal in the hydraulic pump. I did manage to get all the wooden posts set last week and concreted in.

I'll post up some pics, I'm right pleased with out it looks for my first time ever doing fencing

Chilli + wine + poolside fire = attitude adjustment

Been one of those days.

Working on my collection of wood ash so kiddos can have a proper dust bath.

So I'm not even building anything yet but I had to get a tetanus shot the end of April with antibiotics and now I'm back on antibiotics cause of barbed wire biting me, arm looks good now compared to a couple of days ago, didn't need another shot since it was so close together, so how many ouches are you up to? Oh and that's not counting the ouches I got working around the yard. The barbed wire was chasing a fox, he didn't get a chicken and then the dog almost got it!! I have put a light on my shot gun so I think friday night I will stake out the yard, but he isn't really sneaking around at night anymore cause he figured out he can't get my chickens and when they are out during the day the dogs are on duty!! we are going to put hog wire along the fence to keep them out of the yard, and going to extend their run area. I don't have sky predators so that is good

@Flowerbh The LA I got from Buddy it died a couple of days ago, no marks no nothing just dead, he was eating and acting normal and when I went out in the afternoon to check on my babies, I found him in the carport area next to the garage. He was such a beautiful bird. I was hoping to put him with the babies I had gotten from Papa, well they are big now. I really have no clue why it died, it was warm that day but I had lots of water out that I filled that morning, I fill my yard waters every morning so they had water and cool shade to get into, any ideas? All my other birds are fine

I'm double digits past the highest guess from anyone, LOL

splinters, cuts, pokes, scratches, pinched up a couple of blood blisters..........yeah, bout par for the course. And I have just over 300 ft of nearly 800 ft of fence run, more to come!

speaking of the kids you got from me last sept, are most of them laying now? believe it or not, 8 months in and my splash am hen that hatched out at the same time still isn't laying

Day 21 on my eBay Cochin eggs.. One pip from the one and only SL that made it to lockdown.. Can't wait to see what they look like! I also have a few barred rock eggs in there; not sure if I'll sell them or keep to add another pullet or two to my layers.

Sold 10 d'Uccle chicks yesterday.. Only about 20 to go and I'll be DONE selling chicks for the season. I'm OUT! lol
