YO GEORGIANS! :)

so, I've been playing around with foods you can find in the woods.  Today I made some Kudzu flower tea.  Really good!  Tastes like watered down grapes!  So, tomorrow will be kudzu quiche,  I also made some Purslane weed topped with cheese.  It's not much different from turnips and stuff like that.  Very interesting stuff out there!

On a chicken note, a few of the renters asked me how much I would sell some of my chickens for.  I told them I didn't have any for sale right now.  The couple looked at me like I was the most selfish person in the world.  Said they lost all their chickens to hawks and raccoons and they wanted some more laying hens.  I'm sorry, they aren't for sale.  The lady gave me 'the look'.  I guess she thought I had more than enough and was just some greedy person.  TS!

No rain here..  No wind... just another day.  And, I;m thankful for everyday!

How dare you hoard all those chickens to yourself instead of selling them opportunistically to some stranger who just confessed to loosing ALL her birds! Who cares if you worked hard to get them to where they are, clearly you're the selfish one! ;)

I just can't believe some people. I work in retail and sad to say we get folks like that all the time. Unfortunately when it's at your own home you don't get the luxury of just quoting policy at them repeatedly until they leave. Sorry you had to deal with that!

Oh So egg report! This Tuesday will make 2 weeks, and so far most look like they're doing absolutely GREAT! We had 6 that seem to be infertile, but the remaining 18 are developing well! Very active little things too, I'll have to take a video of one of the SBEL mixed eggs, they're the most active.

3/4 of the eggs I pulled out of the fridge never seemed to develop, but one is! It seems to be a day or two behind the rest, but ita a bantam so maybe it'll catch up! I know they like to hatch a day or two early sometimes.

I don't have any plans to keep these chicks, and many should be colored egg layers. Let me know if anyone is interested, otherwise I'll take anything that hatches to auction!

I've seen kudzu jelly for sale. I don't know how they make it though.

I was just about to post that GAMjr and I make kudzu blossom jelly.

You are supposed to be able to make a 'thicking' powder from the flowers that you can use to make jellies and gravies, etc. I guess I will end up buying a kudzu recipe book.

I really had no idea Kudzu was edible! We don't have any close to me and I'd have to go hunting for it, but that's a useful skill to know for the future! I might have to look up some recipes at some point!

I'd have to trespass to get Kudzu...luckily! Had no clue it was edible...hmm. The tea sounds yummy! Someone told me about dump cake...so we're going all out on experimentation...raspberry red velvet...sounds good at least. If we don't like it, I guess the dogs and chickens should have a good time with it.

The leaves and vine of kudzu have a long history in ancient Chinese medicine. The blossoms for jelly ... you steep them like a tea (equal parts blossoms to hot water) for a minimum of 8 hours. Then add sugar, lemon juice, and pectin.
