YO GEORGIANS! :)

Good news and good news:

First: At 4 days old, out of the 16 chicks I hatched, only 3 are looking boyish!!!!! I will have to wait and see, but I know of the 5 CCLs that hatched, 4 were girls and 1 boy! Yay for girls!

Second: Today is lockdown day for the 12 Runner Ducks. I went to candle them before I put them in lockdown, and one has already pipped!!! Several others have already pipped internally! Wow, they weren't due until Friday!!! Hope I didn't mess up the one that was pipping by opening the incubator up! I try not to ever open the incubator as long as they are hatching.....messes up the humidity and temperature!

Anyway! I should have baby ducks soon! Will definitely send photos! You all know how much I love sending pics!! (Although, not a one of you commented on them!

) Baby ducks are the cutest things!

Ducks can be the goofiest things next to guineas. My best friend used to have ducks. Once when I was visiting her in Kentucky, her ducks marched themselves across the road single file. It is a very rural, dead end road, but pasture across the street was a coyote haven). She looked up, saw them going away from home and hollered, "DUCKS! BAAaaaAAAD ducks!" And they turned on a dime and immediately marched right back across the road single file again. LOL. They did it every time. The "ducks, bad ducks" yell was their command to get their fluffy bums back home.

I think if I got ducks, I might want some Khaki Campbells, a more land type duck, but I'd probably get back to my guineas first. At least I know about them more than I do ducks.

Over the years, we've had issues with that same dog and the son, who grew into a troubled 20-something later. He has since moved out of state and the father, who is an over-the-road truck driver either began taking the dog with him or leaving it with someone at the house, not sure who that was most of the time-they were not as diligent as they should have been because I've seen him at our driveway gate a few times.  If the dog had killed Ginger that day, it would have been our fault for not finishing the fence sooner, but we were doing it in increments as money permitted, making an effort to keep that wandering hen at home. Still, no fault of the dog, but later, it was the dog who was the problem, roaming up onto our property, getting close to the chickens. They could never keep that dog at home and later, it reached a head as you can read here:  https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/385404/trapped-a-neighbors-dog-on-my-deck-got-an-earful
read about all the troubles with the neighbors and their dog. This is sad when people do not keep their dogs under control

Dang. I got two fancyish chicks to keep my lone turkey poult company and they both are boys. They both have pink wattles at 3 weeks old. :( I have no luck getting pullets with straight run. So if anyone needs a silver laced wyandotte or barnavelder cockerel, let me know. I don't want to process them when they are so pretty. But I'll have no use for them in a few weeks.

@Flowerbh Is your friend with the totally naked turkens in GA and does she sell them? Thanks!

I'm not sure what state she lives in, but I was thinking it was Arizona. You can look her up on the Naked Neck thread. Her name is Kassaundra. Here is one of her new babies she just posted.

I mentioned yesterday that I hadn't seen a snake yet this season and that they're coming out of hibernation now, and they're hungry. Well, my wait is over! This afternoon my son discovered a four-and-a-half-foot black rat snake in our house! It was coming out of the brooder room and into the hallway. We cornered it, and he caught it.

Unfortunately, it ate and regurgitated one of my wife's 4-week-old partridge silkies. The top of the brooder was two-and-a-half feet above ground level. Looks like I will be moving all my brooders to four feet above ground level.

The snake came in through a hole in the closet that was drilled by the cable company. The size of the hole is (you guessed it!) about the size of a nickel. Anyway, here are some photos (Son insisted I use a blur to hide his identity...lol):
