YO GEORGIANS! :)

Welcome to BYC neighbor! I’m in Dekalb too (Atlanta near Emory). 30345 🙂
Awesome! I'm so excited about finding Backyard Chickens! I'm obsessed & learning as much as I can about keeping chickens locally before I acquire any. I'm in 30341 🤗. I'm eager for your experience & wisdom!

Wow, really close! There are a lot of chicken tenders in the area, but I’m not aware of others on BYC. There’s an Atlanta group called Backyard Chickens on NextDoor if you’re on that platform.

The main thing to know is roosters aren’t allowed in our area (except Decatur I believe), and there are limits to the numbers you can have based on the size of your property (we only have 4).

How have I been on BYC for months and just now found that there is a Georgia page?!?! Hello fellow Georgians!!
Hey there. I see you live in NW Georgia.
That area is growing in population by leaps and bounds!
Dalton area has really boomed.
My parents live in Catoosa county and my sister lives in Walker county, so I’ve been all around NW Georgia.
Just can’t believe how much it has grown in such a short time.

Ain't that the truth! I know growth is a part of life, but geez....can they please pick somewhere else before all our farm land is gone?!?

My husband & I bought 36-acres on the south side of Gordon County to try to escape some of the growth, but I fear it's still following us.

Hi Georgians! Someone suggested that I ask my question here🙂

Does anyone have experience in getting npip certified? I’m waiting to hear back from the GDA, but I really want to hear personal experiences!

I’m in Blue Ridge ga!

We are from Fayette County, GA, and just recently got into Backyard Chickens. We had ordered some chicks from a hatchery back in June that were supposed to be all female. Surprise. We have a rooster!

Tory (short for Tornado) is a 4-month-old Barred Rock. He is a very sweet little gentleman. He loves watermelon, corn, and blueberry treats!

Unfortunately, we are not permitted to keep roosters, so here we are trying to find a new home for our little guy. We are not asking for money. We just want to find him a good home where he can be allowed to do his thing in a new flock and live his best life.
Please message if interested. Thank you!

I got 3 blue ribbons, an award of excellence & 2 judges choice awards! I only submitted 3 items this year & they all won a minimum of first place! Woohoo 🙌🎉🎉
Opal kumihimo necklace, handspun, dyed, & knitted shawl, a shirt I wove with handspun cotton/linen weft, & sewed.

By now I hope you have been certified. I have nothing but positive to say about the process. It is new that there is a $35.00 charge to have an NPIP membership, and now there is testing twice per year. Everything for the VS 9-3 is digital which is perfect, much faster and you can't lose the booklet!

Thank you! I’m not yet, actually. They sent my information to the tester and said he’d contact me within two days, but a month went by until he did. I immediately responded, but he won’t answer and it’s been another month. I haven’t contacted the GDA again yet just because my whole flock isn’t entirely ready yet, so I was letting it slide for now. Although I’m beginning to wonder is I should still contact them again in case I end up needing on a waitlist
