all I have read about is yogurt and chicks...How it is good for them, how nearly everyones chickens love it etc etc.

On 2 ocassions I have tried to feed my 3 week chicks some and all they want to do is make a mess with it. tonight I put about 1/2 cup in a shallow saucer and the darn bird brains would jump into it and then splash it all around. I think every darn chick had to fly up and into the stuff. I had it elevated off the ground, but there was no stopping them from jumping, crawings, flapping and distributing the stuff all over each other and the bedding material.

How do you guys feed yogurt to the birds without my problems?

I don't feed yogurt to my chicks for that very reason. I feed semi-solid liquids at about 12 weeks when they are fully feathered and have a good grasp on how to preen themselves.

If you want the benefits of the probiotics, feed a much smaller amount of the yogurt and mix is in with something with more substance like a little cooked or raw grains (quinoa, sesame seeds, millet, flax seed, rolled oats, rice etc). I would also put it in a much smaller container with higher sides--I use a 1/2 cup ramekin so thy can't run rampant through it.

Who're you callin' messy?
