Yogurt???

The ACV helps with the pasty butt or the yogurt? I put ACV in mine too, it is just good all around. You will notice shinier feathers too for it! I also drink it :) Did you all know it gets rid of strep quicker than the antibiotics!? And it just wipes out regular old sore throat :)

The ACV helps with pasty butt. When I tried not using it I had pasty butt. Within hours of putting them back on ACV in the water they were better. I just have better things to do than pick poop off chicks. lol

that's good to know! I just ordered 15 chickies, and I will def keep the ACV in their water. I do it for my chickens now, but not every single time. About how much do you put in? I just put in a little, the same way I drink it, but I didn't know if there was a recommended amount.

I just eyeball it so I'm not sure the amount I put in. Put just a little. If you see pasty behinds add a little more.

Just got my chicks yesterday, a few of them had pasty butt so I tried a small amount of yogurt mixed with crumble and they won't touch it. What am I doing wrong?

Welcome to BYC! This can be a common problem in chicks, check your brooder temp make sure it is not too hot. Wash their bottom and remove any poop,be gentle tissue is delicate. If any still have a sml piece of umbilical cord attached, never pull it will fall off on it's own.

You could try giving them probios dispersible powder if it continues. Careful of how much yogurt is given as chicks do not need the extra calcium. You can also give scrambled eggs.

Here is a link explaining pasty butt.

Thanks! I ditched the yogurt and fed them hard boiled yolk, they love it.

Took care of their little bottoms last night with warm water and cotton balls. Started them on sav a chick probiotic mixed in their water.
