I am getting Yokohamas in Northern Nj and was wondering if anyone had any info on them. I have found very little on the web . Any help would be appreciated.

I had a Yokohama rooster once. I sold him at about 8 weeks old. He was very sweet and very handsome even at that age. I just could not have any more rooster otherwise I would probably still have him.

I love them. They are more like pheasants than chickens. Mine are only penned at night.

Here was my pair of Red-shouldered Yokohamas:

I had several other pullets, but they were on the other side of the pen when I took the picture. They were beautiful birds, but mine didn't really fit the Standard at all because they were hatchery stock. Mine were poor layers, although fertility was very good. If you are getting them, I would recommend getting them from breeders. Hopefully the quality will be better. All in all though I enjoyed them. They certainly didn't eat much and their looks and attitudes made up for everything they lacked in.

Thanks for the pics, I am now ever more excited about getting them. Does anyone know how they tolerate the cold weather? Also, where would I find info on breed standard? If anyone else has pics or info it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much,
