I dont have a picture of it but I'll get one of it happens again. One of my RIR layed an egg with a yolk that had different shades of yellow. Part looked normal the other part was darker and appeared to be less dense. It tasted fine though. Any thing wrong with it or just something that happens? They free range with free choice feed and calcium.

yeah, how old is your RIR?
they were hatched in early November I also have a white leghorn born the same time and a black Maran born a couple weeks later. And a few cream legbar /EE mixes that are about 3 months old and a red sex link that wondered into my neighbors yard a few days ago. It's older not sure her age. Very people friendly though.

Another question my leghorn isn't laying as often as she was? Is this normal?

New layers take 4-6 weeks to adjust and have a regular laying pattern. Even then, chickens aren't machines, so there will be variations in length of time and in hour of day. They generally prefer to lay mid-morning to mid-afternoon but eggs don't always come when we want. Sometimes an egg will get laid near bedtime, but more often than not, they'll wait and hold it till morning. So it may seem like they aren't laying as often when in fact they are right on schedule.
