Yolk sac “cord” problem

Hi!

So last night my 4th chick hatched from the incubator. When I went and looked, there was a bloody mess in the water channels, and just everywhere. I thought for sure this little one was dying.

Fast forward to today... and baby seems to be doing okay. It’s alert and walking around, but it’s yolk sac (umbilical?) cord is still attached and doesn’t look like any of my previous chick hatches. I haven’t seen anything like this yet.

Should I give it time to let it fall off on its own? Or anything I can do? As long as it’s not going to harm the little one I don’t want to mess with the natural process, just wasn’t sure that this was normal.

Tie it off tightly a bit from the umbilical tightly with dental floss. It will dry up and fall off.

Okay so I’ve left it alone to see if it will dry up, and it has (see photo). Now it seems like it’s a little uncomfortable for the chick so at this point should I cut it? Chick will only sleep standing up lol.

Yes..You can but leave a little bit close to the navel..

Thanks again for you help! I clipped it a bit so she wasn’t stepping on it anymore. Finally is laying down to sleep and seems much happier lol.

It looks dry enough that the rest will fall off. It came out of the egg a little too early is all.
