I was getting rid of the "dud" eggs from a hatch today and to my surprise found this chick in one of the eggs. (All others were undeveloped) I left the bottom half of the shell with him and stuck him back under mom but the 2 times I've gone out to check on him, he is buried under her in the shavings. I'm afraid he will suffocate since he isn't walking yet. What is going on here? Can I save this little one?

Note: This chick is from a mama incubated egg - I do not have an incubator up and running so that may change your advice!

I guess you could put her in a brooder, or box or something with a heat lamp or bulb at one end, and lay her there on a washcloth or something. See what happens.

It's all dried up this morning and the chick is alert. However, there is still a red ball on the outside of the abdomen.....is this normal or is this part of the chicks insides that are stuck outside? Has anyone had a chick like this survive?

I think thats the yolk sack that didnt get fully sealed into the abdomen. Normally it is covered by skin. I think thats because it wasnt ready to hatch? Did the little one make it?

Sorry I can't help, but... That chick is adorable! I've never seen a wet (newly hatched) chick before.
