So far we have two tiny Button Quail chicks this morning in the incubator.

The second one to hatch has a reddish blob on it's bum? Is this unabsorbed yolk sac? It is moving around in the bator with the other chick and dragging it around. When he is dried off I am going to move them both to the brooder. Should I just leave it on him? Or should I try to take it off? I don't want to take a chance of hurting him.... my instinct is telling me to leave it alone and it will dry up and fall off. Please any suggestions????

I am not sure that's what it is..... but I think you are right I will leave him in there. Just watched the third one hatch! He is most of the way out of the shell, just having a hard time with the back end of his body coming out, LOL. I am sure he can do it

How long can I leave them in the incubator? I don't want to be opening it a lot. I do still need to re-wet the sponges at some point. The humidity is currently at 59%

OMG

The one with the little blob on it got the blob stuck to the thermometer!!! So I popped the lid to use a wet Q-tip to free him, and the oldest one jumped out of the incubator!!!! I got him back in without incident, but the one I freed was trying to jump out too!!! The humidity is actually at 49% right now. But not sure what to do???? HELP!!!! They are gonna try to make a break for it if I open the incubator to wet the sponges...... and two of them aren't dried off (one just hatched)....

HELP, HELP, HELP

What do I do about the humidity????

Whew.... the humidity is back up to 58%
I can live with that!
And the one that had the blob is doing well, the blob is almost gone.

Oh man.... this should be interesting! I can't believe how fast they are! My husband is still at work so he can't help me. I know that at least two are dry and can go in the brooder then..... We have four now, and one just hatched a few minutes ago.

I did a Google search and this came up from BYC....

"Do not be in a hurry to take chicks out of the incubator. Gallinaceous birds, such as chickens, quail, and pheasants survive up to 3 days without feed or water."

Think I will at least wait until my husband gets home in just a little while..... I don't want any to try to jump out while the lid is off like the one did earlier this morning.
