Yolks are breaking

I definitely think it's their diet causing the soft yolks but to know if it's the feed, you'll have to find out exactly what else they're eating.

I am having the same problem with the yolks from my chickens. My birds get out of the coop for several hours each afternoon and for most of the day on the weekends. We don't give them lots of scraps cause honestly we don't have much. We feed just feed store laying feed and they leave a lot of that on the coop floor.

High stress levels in a flock can also cause thin yolk membranes.

One other thing to point out is that old eggs will do this as the egg breaks down. How well do you know the farmer? Are you sure he is giving you the absolute freshest eggs? One easy test is put an egg in warm water,, a very fresh egg will just lay on the bottom,, at about a week to 2 weeks it will stay on bottom but stand on it's end,, after that will actually start to float. I'm not saying this is the case with your farmer,, it could just be something else.

I'm glad to know it's not just them. I hope we can find a solution.

They live 3 blocks away from us and are very good friends. The eggs are very fresh without a doubt. They don't seem to be stressed, but it's hard to know what's going on in those little minds.

They just roam the yard everyday and roost at night.

I'm going to feed the same feed and give them fresh wheat fodder every other day and see if that makes a difference. Mine just started laying and so far the yolks are fine.
