Yorkie Vs Chicken - Graphic Pics......I Need Advice

As others have said, keep him isolated. There is no way to tell from the pics how deep those puncture wounds are. Your biggest concern right now is to keep him quiet, eating and drinking. Monitor for signs of infection or start on a mild antibiotic via water solution.

It is not a rooster's job to protect the hens from your dog. It is your job. I would suggest keeping them apart at all times.

I just read that too!! that is Hilarious!! I think that the chicken will be okay, nothing to worry about.

I would use peroxide or dilute betadine to clean the wounds. Peroxide will "boil" out some of the debris. Then triple antibiotic ointment (Neosporin) (without the pain killer) will control surface infection and be soothing to the chicken. I would keep him indoors and not dress it.

You may be able to get systemic antibiotics at feed stores, if you want to use one. I don't know anything about that.

When I had chicks, my sweetest Boston Terrier jumped four feet into the air, before I same him move, and bit the head off the chick I was holding. Some members gave me a real beating as I shared the horror. I hope all will be kinder to you. I know you must feel terrible. I cried like a baby over the guilt of taking a chance with the life of something so fragile.

The one thing I took away was the responsibility to keep the dogs away from the chickens. You might even say the poor chick saved all the others. I know now to always latch the gate to the run, to never open the coop when the dogs are in the yard and to just keep them apart at all cost.

Don't beat yourself up. It's hard to imagine our sweet, loveable dogs are part wolf or fox.

I'm glad most members are giving you advice on making the chicken better. That's really all you need at this time. )o;
