Thank you for your wonderful input @Mrs. K and @EggSighted4Life. I had never thought of the processing as being somewhat cathartic, but it definitely is. I guess since my very first processing was the result of an overly mean cockerel, I maintained that same sense of urgency when processing the next few. But in time I ‘mellowed’ out a bit. 
I did want (psychological) support in the very beginning, but now it’s just me and my stuff (my scalder, a string on a tree, a garbage bag, a couple of knives, a bucket, a towel, and running water). Also, having a good fire going, in a burning barrel, and tossing the offal into it is a plus. The smell of roasting chicken is a wonderful little bonus!
