Usually you don't actually "see" it. Some people have, but it stresses them if you bother them while they are laying it, so don't try to. There are some people on here that have had their chickens lay an egg while sitting in their lap!

If you do want to save it, poke a hole on both ends and blow it out. Then you can eat it and save the whole egg!

Many hens work on a 26 hour cycle. So if she laid her egg at 8am today listen for her at around ten tomorrow, twelve the next day and so on. The cut off time depends on the quantity of sunlight in the day. Durring this time of year all my girls are done by 3pm. So anyone who laid late yesterday will take today off. It's a good thing to know what to expect when they first start so you can make sure they are laying where you want them to. You may even think about keeping her confined to the coop until the deed is done untill she establishes a pattern of leaving them where you want them. I hope you are thourally enjoying your hens.
