I miss my farm chickens ( moved from the country 10 years ago and had to give away my 28 laying hens and one red cochin rooster as well as all of my ducks and geese) The farm store had Austrolorps and it was Mothers day. Hubby could not say no.

6. I was thinking they'd be cute, eat bugs, provide eggs, eat weeds...they eat my grass, not weeds, but everything else was spot on...I adore them. If I didn't live in the city I'd have WAY more.

My very first chicken was a Rhode Island Red my mother purchased as a day old from a feed Store in Largo Florida. I was twelve and still had the hen when I married at 21. She died shortly thereafter so my husband purchased a few Silkies for me as soon as we moved in the country. We expanded to Old English Rosecombs and several other mixed breeds hens who were fabulous layers. My collection grew as various fowl 'fell in my lap'. Eventually I ended up with quite the collection of assorted mixed birds and I was one happy country gal!
