You know you are getting old when:

DNA tests can be a surprise. We all laughed at DNA when grandson was tested as part of a college course and came back low % Nigerian. Then we were given DNA test kits for Christmas. The Princess came back 2.3% Nigerian also 23% Ashkenazi Jew. Those Gypsies sure got around.
My Dad was 100% Sicilian. Over the centuries, Sicily has changed hands with pretty much every sea-faring power in the world and has imported massive numbers of slaves from everywhere else - think Roman, Ottoman, Greek Empires, etcetera. My maternal grandmother's roots were in Appalachia, Ireland & pretty much all of the British Isles. My kids' DNA came back as a total patchwork quilt. It's pretty darned cool.
We didn't sign up for the "Find My Relatives" part, but I'm thinking of doing that add-on for them this Christmas. I want to either put to rest or shed light on my own father's wanderlust. I have a pretty solid suspicion that my kids have a mystery aunt out there somewhere ... and I'd love to meet her!
Ain't families grand? And I still get harassed about why I'm staying single after divorce. The truth takes this long sidetrack back to the main thread topic:
I'M TOO OLD FOR THIS SCHMIDT!

When you look in the mirror and think, "oh hey, Grandma!"
I actually had that moment, but it was from looking at the last picture I have from before my Grandpa passed. They're standing in their driveway with the golden fields behind them, looking for all it's worth like a family version of "American Gothic." All they needed was the pitchfork. I now know what having your "heart caught in your throat "means. That's exactly how it felt when I realized that the face in my mirror and the face in that picture were identical.
Oh Gramma, I miss you so.

We were lucky enough to take a trip throughout Italy. I was amazed to see the varying DNA throughout the country from swarthy Arabic to fair skinned/blue eyed/redheads.

...and that's why mainland Italians look down on Sicilians. We're mutts!
