You know you're a backyard chicken owner when...

When the same day you lose a chicken because of a predator or unfortunate death, you set out to replace the chicken immediately, because now you only have 14 chickens, and you need more than that.

I was determined to wait until next year before I replenished my flock, and then we lost our leghorn. The next day my husband says, ok, get one more. I'm like, NO! You can't get one! They're social, you have to have two! But he's superstitious, so he says we can't have 13, so I have to get three new chicks to replace one dead pullet.

Oh, I'm really not!!! LOL I feel bad for my leghorn, but I got a barnevelder, Araucana and ee (araucana x ameraucana!)

I got all three from @julietta here in Ct. I may have to go back in a year and get one that's tufted, since mine ended up clean faced.

That’s great. I wonder how far she is from me. I’m supposed to get 2 Araucana pullets from @Martin Huevo Farm when he hatched Araucana eggs this summer.

I have araucana eggs due to hatch 04/14 (this upcoming Saturday)
