Oh my gosh you and I could be sisters!!! And my name is Heather too! I totally find myself intrigued by all birds now: even the pigeons walking the parking lot at Walmart, lol and I NEVER used to even give birds a second glance before I got chickens!!!

I have always loved birds. I never thought I'd like chickens so much though! They were just supposed to be egg layers and "fixtures." Hah! If you think about it, they're a lot like cats. They can be really aloof, curious, getting into odd troubles, even cuddly.

When you've given yourself the nickname "Grape-man" to be only used by the chickies.

We bring one lucky bantam chicken in every morning for a visit and to have breakfast with us. My husband has trained everyone one of them to beg at the refridgerator. They stand and look at the fridge and then up at him. He opens up the door and they both go to the official grape drawer and pick out a treat. He then cuts it up into little pieces while they stand at his feet. Then he hand feeds them while he coos to them. (it melts my heart every time!)

Oh and I guess we would be a crazy chicken family just by the fact that we bring one of them in the house every morning!?!?!?

...if you have a silkie chick living in the brooder in your bedroom.

the rest of our house is cold at night because we don't have central heat (have wood burning stoves) so we HAVE to keep her in the bedroom where it's warm and toasty.

she's getting used to running around on the floor in the bedroom and we have tile so it's easy to cleanup any messes she makes. it's adorable hearing her soft trilling sounds coming from the brooder in the morning

Cooking up enough eggs, sausage and cheese for breakfast burritos, knowing that your DW is not going to eat it. Then announce that you don't want it to go to waste and running out the door to the coop.

I have come to the conclusion I'm not just a crazy chicken lady, I'm absolutely insane chicken lady is more like it.......!!!
Today I fed my girls and boys about 7 am, it was 20 degree's here this morning and we have about 4 inches of snow on the ground.
So I see the girls have already finished their breakfast by the time I have chores done and notice they are all fluffed up and sitting on the roosts in the sun and look cold, so I go in the house to make them some warm scrabbled eggs, tomatoes and pea's, only to see I'm out of organic tomatoes, so I hop in my car drive 20 miles to the closest grocery store to get them there tomatoes, and proceed to make them something to warm their tummies that looks like this.. My husband says I have totally lost my mind, but my chickies were so happy.............
