I have a mid March hatch, Black Bantam Cochin hen, she's maybe laid 10 eggs total so far. I noticed a few days ago it was taking her a long time to get off the nest but she always would. Today she went to lay her egg about 2ish and she is still there, it's 7pm. Do you think it is possible for her to try setting already? She is so young. I'm pretty sure Cochin's are good mommas and setters but I find this hard to believe. Should I remove the egg and take her off the nest? Is it possible she could hatch out a few babies at such an early age? I know the eggs should be fertile because there has been some romancing going on... hehe
    Thanks for any advice.

she probably is too young to set. if you put or keep fertilized eggs under her, she will probably set for a little while, and just get up and quit.
