My daughter scared one of our 4-5 week olds and it went under the chicken house. Unluckily the floor is 16 by 12 and about 8" high. Poor bird has never been outside and is scared and frozen. Any suggestions on getting it out before it becomes something's supper?

A broom simply will not reach.

Chicken run is not built yet......

:flwell I would put boards or wire or something around the edges to keep dogs, and stuff out until you can coax it out. put a dog cage or something with scratch in it at and opening.

Either something relly long that you can roll from both sides.
or maybe turn it into a 3 man operation one on the left side and one on the right and another out front
to catch the save him from the big ulgy broom monsters.

We can't seem to make the broom move enough to scare her.....
My daughter is going to hold onto a second chicken and see if she will move. I will try in a bit to scare he towards the outside. It would help if it was not so horribly muddy all around the coop. (main reason coop is in the air)

Try to make a contraption of scratch or something yummy in a bowl at the end of a long stick. maybe you can coax her closer. I'd be afraid of scaring her too much. If she thinks you can't reach her, she may stay still.

Try putting someone on each side of the building and someone at the end, then using the water hose on a easy stream coax her out for some one to catch her. If you don't have a net, go to the local bait shop or cabelas, etc. and buy one. It sure makes it way easier to catch them and they don't get hurt at all. After you get them, just dry them off good and put them back in the coop! I just got done having to do this tonight. All ended well! Good Luck!

What a great idea about the water!!!
I did poke the broom through holes and finally got her to move. Daughter got to chase her down.....I don't think she will be one of our overly friendly ones now.

I have been thinking about needing some type of net....it has just moved way up on the "need to get " list.

Thanks so much for the ideas and especially for the support!
