Hi Guys,
Eggs are hatching under broody Momma she is a 8 and 1/2 month old Cochin she had 8 eggs under her.
About an hour ago I checked on Momma and seen something next to her. 1st chick hatched and looks like she killed it , not a pretty sight at all
not a natural death at all but looks like it was well formed before the killing.
So I'm thinking she may not be a good mom. I just looked under her wing and there was a fuzzy butt peeping at me so I put wing back and left her. Now I'm thinking something was wrong with the first chick or it just scared the heck out of her since it is her first one and she was like "I have a lovely egg... ekk what the heck is that!" and killed it
I don't know how many eggs are left I only peeked at one living so far. Will she get made if I try to look? so far she is a sweety ... beside killing her first hatched anyways.
Is that normal to happen or does it mean she is a bad mom and I should take the babies out?
How long should I wait to clean out the egg shells from her nest?
She is in the main coop in a dog cage that is surrounded by chicken wire.
Thanks
Rhonda
