Young chick behavior

the group here tends to think my chick is about a week old- my friend is doing the chick raising as her house safer than mine - she says the chick is already flapping and trying to fly- does that sound right? I thought it would be much older!

Sounds about right. Wait till you see them at 4-5 weeks. Need to have netted cover over brooder if in brooder so can not fly out. They are fun to watch using their wings. Providing a perch for roosting on they will love at a minimum of 5 inches of height.

Young chicks get to the "popcorn" stage pretty quickly, where they're hopping and bouncing around as they play and explore. They can jump pretty impressive heights even before they can fly.

Wow! I’ll tell her 5” perch- her box has a screen roof-
