young chick ( no tail yet) one of a clutch of 10, 7 still surviving,(mongoose) feral birds but born at our house, broken leg? couldnt keep up. I isolated now 5 days, leg is better starting to bear weight, I put him out with the mom and chicks every day for longer each time, keep an eye. he is starting to run after them, but using wings and still lame, when can I let him go,? he needs to be able to climb into a tree at night but I dont want to miss the window to get him back with mom and follow the group? I was surprised he made it through the first night he is very vocal and cute. I have him in a clear container and in the middle of the others, who I encourage to be around with snacks haha but the others will peck him if he is not protected. I have a couple of hens sitting, who will kill a lone chick! they go after the clutch even with mom there. Im gong one day at a time, and its not today. he does know how to hunt and alerts to loud sound, but is very young. Im afraid he will tire if just let out to keep up with mom, he really wants to go. ( but I can still catch him haha and he cant jump out of the box yet which is what Im using as a measure) but he is too young to be alone. so ? thoughts? thanks
