Young chicken question ...

My first egg was at 4 1/2 months on my standard size chickens. The others just followed suit anywhere from 5-6 1/2 months old before they started to lay. A few weeks before the first one started to lay there was quite a bit of activity in the next boxes. They would get in and out and kick the shavings around a nock the fake egss out, so it's a positive sign that she is looking at the boxes. Mine wouldn't even acknowledge them until they were getting ready to lay. You don't want her sleeping in there though, otherwise you'll have poopy eggs. Block access at night before they go to roost and then open it back up after dark and that should cure her of sleeping in it.
