Hi there, I need some help with a young black ameraucana chicken, she is 4 months old.
1) What type of bird , age and weight. -- she weighs probably only 4 lbs.2) What is the behavior, exactly. droopy wings, not wanting to stand,
3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. NO sign of trauma
4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. She stopped eating a few days ago, not interested in food. Today i noticed her feet are swollen and she doesn't want to stand up.5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. Runny and green, because all she wanted to eat was zucchini, she would not eat her feed.7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? separated her, she was in a separate wire cage anyway, and put her in our garage, fed her electrolytes/vitamins in her water, and a mixture of yogurt, honey, oatmeal, and egg yolk for food. She ate a little bit.8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? i want to try anti-biotics at the feed store.
9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
10) Describe the housing/bedding in use

She was in a wire cage, and her feet are weak, toes are not straight out, her wings are droopy, but her eyes are alert and clean. she has lost interest in food, I think i might force feed her mushy baby food.

Any suggestions would be great. She looks healthy, feathers are nice and she is clean, no mites.

Rickets? You could give her some oyster shell for calcium. Or kill her. I wouldn't. Maybe I'm chicken (haha). Hmm, need to think about this.

That has happen with my wheaten ameraucana rooster but he died a couple hours after i noticed it. I hope it is different for you.

This chicken does not free-range, and she was in a wire cage, no bedding to speak of. What does it mean to be unthrifty? Her feet look a little swollen and today is worse, now she cannot even stand up at all. I'm losing confidence and I think will go to the Feed store for anti-biotics, but I don't know if this will help her at this point.

Please write with any suggestions or comments. I'm trying to post a picture. She is laying on her side splayed out and cannot stand up.[/url]

I vote Marek's too, based on the picture and the age. I don't know why it is, but it's always the best, prettiest pullet that gets it. Very distressing.
