So I decided to raise chickens and quail this year I am a complete noob. I am sure my endless list of mistakes have resulted in my situation but I need to get this under control. I am trying to learn so forgive my stupidity.

I have the quail inside a flight pen that's in my large chicken run, it is raised off the ground water changed twice daily. Feeding starter grower, game bird mix and DE sprinkled in there. I recently got 4 new chicks and put them in with the quail as they are the se
Size. They have died off one at a time until I have one left that is now quarantined. The most recent showed no symptoms. The other 2 were lethargic and didn't seem to eat but would drink. Now I have two female quail with swollen eyes one appears to be a huge cyst or tumor making her head twice the size it normally is. These are also quarantined. What can I do cull these two? Out of my 20 quail 4 are female I'd hate to cut my hen population in half. These quail are maybe 5-6 weeks old. Any help is greatly appreciated? I've done a great deal of research clearly it wasn't enough. Is there any antibiotics I can give the rest to prevent further spread of this?

Sorry for the lengthy post I just want to be through.

Wow - I feel for you. This is horrible...

Are they in a heated area? Chicks need to stay warm until they're quite a bit older... maybe they're too cold?? If so, that would explain the sudden death... as far as the odd defects - maybe they're getting into something they should be? Or are there chemicals of any kind sprayed near or on the ground? Maybe there's something wrong with the environment from where you're buying them from?

Possible the chicks may have died from Coccidiosis. Cocci is a parasitic infection of the intestinal tract, kills very fast if left untreated. Some symptoms are runny/watery poop (may or may not contain blood)lethargic, fluffed feathers, not eating/drinking properly. If symptoms march purchase Corid(amprolium),dosage for Corid powder is 1/2 tsp per gallon of water, dosage for Corid liquid is 2 tsp per gallon of water. Treat all chicks for 5 days,do not give vitamins during treatment(interferes with medication)give vitamins after treatment.

As for baby quail, here is a link from a previous forum on something that is similar to what your quail are going through. Read through postings and see if symptoms fit, there is medication and dosage information.

The quail have been here for a month and have been really healthy and happy,
until now. The chicks I got were 3 weeks old and we did have some nights get into the 60's this week that may have been what killed the chickens off. I was afraid the quail may have Coryza suppose I will keep them quarantined and see if they can pull through it. I'm more concerned about the rest of the flock at this point I don't want this to spread any further. Thanks for all the help and the button quail thread was very helpful I read one similar to that but the symptoms didn't quite match.
Sounds like without some blood work I may never know.

Sorry no chemicals anywhere near them and I bought them from polish farms seemed to be a clean operation when I was there picking them up.
