Young cockeral mating or aggressive?

I have approx 50 8 week old chicks in with 10 birds all older than 7 months.

My lowest pullet is a 7 month old RIR. She came into her own a bit when the chicks were integrated in a few weeks ago.

1/2 the chicks are “Broiler” Delaware from Murray McMurray (thumbs up experience)

It was apparent at about 3 weeks who was cockers/pullet. The boys have been rowdy the whole time. Lots of facing off. I’ve only found one bit of feathers picked out with blood on one Delaware a week ago.

The biggest groups of Delaware cockerals are 3/4 the size of the RIR.

When putting them up for the night, I watched a Delaware try to mate the RIR....I think. He had her by the back of the head and was running alongside her.

Seems young for mating. I stopped it.

They had a roughish day. Cold, rain and snow. A friends dog caused them to lose it for about 15 minutes. I had to coop them up for much of the mid day due to off homestead commitments.

I will be eating most of the Delaware’s.

Is it mating? Or is it a separate issue?
