Hello. I have 2 four month old emu that I feed from raised dog bowls. Is there something I can use so they can eat all day, but the sparrows can't? I'm mostly upset they poop in the feed.....thanks

Yes there is a solution. Not sure you want to take it.
I have numerous sparrows around my house. I do enjoy having them here. I have a bird feeder available year round.
Currently, (in my zone 5A) the newborn sparrows hatched in recent weeks. The parent sparrows need to feed their young. I just LUV, ❤️ seeing the babies being fed.
So you must understand that sparrows are also Gods little creatures. They need to eat.
My sparrows don't raid the chicken feeders, since I provide them with wild bird seeds.
Think about the solution.

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,:hugs

Sparrow cage traps work if you're fine seeing a drop in sparrow population

A feeder with a hood over it might help as well as a feeder with a cover and a pressure plate for the birds to step on can work but would need training

Is the amount of poop substantial? My guess would be that the emus couldn't care less. In the wild, they eat dirt and stones. I've seen them peck grains of wheat out of emoo poop. They aren't too choosy.

Do you trap and release them? How far away do you take them to be released?
Ahh, I kill them. They'll come back if you release them. If you want to release them, take them a couple hundred miles away and release and maybe they won't come back, however, there might be issues as you go accross county, state, national lines

Here is the main trap I was thinking of that works for starlings too. I don't recomend buying this one though but it gives and idea. There are plans online as well as YouTube videos giving a breakdown of how to build and what is needed

If you don't want to kill them and not deal with releasing issues but have a bar cat, you can give them to the cat to do the job for you
