Young emu feeder...dumb sparrows

Yes, a pellet gun or BB gun will do the job fast. Other fast methods get gruesome and I prefer to just used a pellet gun and the like if something like that. The guy who's been helping me get into rheas has built a couple of those fake Martin traps, however, he's been breeding and selling rheas for 35 years so he has more reason to reduce their population to keep his rheas healthy for many years to come. I do not recomend buying, far better accross the board to make your own for much less

That makes sense. I have a pellet gun but we can't fire those off within city limits.

Maybe a wildlife rehab would be interested in euthanizing them and feeding to raptors? Maybe not due to potential for pesticide. I think the only humane way to deal with them once they’re trapped is pellet gun, or try to live with them. I eliminate all sparrows and starlings in my local area because they’re not super abundant yet and don’t have breeding populations. I feel like I am actually making a difference preventing them from setting up locally when I take out a pair here and there before they can nest. If they’re really abundant locally trying to control them could become a constant battle.

For the emu feeder, is it possible to get a stick and hang a foil streamer from it out of range of the emus? A “sparrow spooker” works for keeping house sparrows out of nest boxes and feeders and might work in this scenario. I guess some concerns with this would be to make sure it doesn’t scare the emus as well, or that they don’t try to ingest the streamer.
