My 29 week old Easter egger seems to have an impacted crop but it's just full of sand and it's has not gone down for at least 2 days. I don't know what to do, I have gave her some fish oil and massaged her crop. She is going to the bathroom every once and awhile. I need some at home treatments as I don't have enough money to go to the vet.

Hope this helps you.

She is eating a little more than usual and drinking normally. She laid this morning. I don't know why she eats sand, but she usually eats anything she can get ahold of which I guess includes sand.

If you can you should restrict her access to sand. I had a hen who got an impacted crop twice. I would massage her crop for a few minutes every time I went into the coop. It takes a few days to go down but not more than a week. I always get very nervous when one of my hens has a problem. They’re more than just for eggs. I like to think of them as pets with benefits. Good luck with your girl.

Do you provide grit for them? They do eat the craziest things, maybe she's not getting enough nutrition, what are you feeding her? Maybe up the protein...

I only give her layer crumbles and corn, I had to take them away from her because she would eat until she got sick. I think she has sand in her system because when she spills water she tries to drink it but ends up with sand instead. When she is healthy again I'll try to see if adding more protein helps.

Take the corn away, she needs her nutrition, you can try wetting her crumbles or adding to yogurt. I ferment my girls Flock Raiser & have Oyster Shells on the side as well as grit. For the spilled water, look into the Horizontal Water Nipples, no leaks or spills. Hope she feels better soon.
