I have 10 hens in a large coop. They free range most of the day. Water, food, and oyster shell are always available. She has been better 2 or 3 weeks now but still no eggs. How long should we wait? Is it possible she won't lay anymore? One of my younger hens is an americauna who had gotten sick. She had been laying for about a week. I believe I may have poisoned her with 7 dust by getting it in her eyes, but she may have been acting a little slow before and we hadn't noticed. She started closing her eyes and looking weak one day. We had to urge her to drink but we could do nothing to get her to eat. She was looking like she would die for a couple weeks and we wondered how she was surviving without eating. Once her eyes opened, we would bring her out to get some sun and set in the grass. Her first poo was bright yellow and our concern was an egg busted inside her. After a couple more weeks she started coming out of the infirmary coop and trying to mix with the others. She eventually moved herself to sleep near the others, on a lower perch, then into the nest box, now she has moved herself to sleep alone in a smaller coop attached to the larger. She does move around with the flock but stays a bit on the side lines. She is now eating well and runs for scraps like the others. One of her eyes is a cloudy blue color and has strange colored lines on the white part. She has been better 2 or 3 weeks now but still no eggs. How long should we wait? Is it possible she won't lay anymore? Another of these youngest started laying and a couple weeks later went broody. She broke herself after a few days but now, a week later, she still isn't laying. How long after going broody do hens wait to lay again? Thanks for all the help!
