I was working in my woodshop where I was brooding 3 weeks and 5-day old quail. All a sudden, I heard a quail crowing. I know quail reach maturity 6-7 weeks, but do the crow that early. I have a high male-female ratio of 2 males and 1 female, don't know if that would have anything to do with it. Anyway, he is already trying breed. Don't know if that is healthy for my one female. Or is that normal?

Hi, sorry, I see you didn’t get any responses yet. If he started trying to mate and crow at 3 weeks, he was an early bloomer! By now they’re all grown up so you will be able to get your M:F ratio to 1:4 or 1:5. Otherwise (I hope this hasn’t happened already) the boys will tear the girls up. Do you know how many hens came up in your younger batch?

I had at least 3 jumbo wild females, 2 jumbo males, and I haven't sexed the celadons yet. I would say equal. What do you do with celadons you don't want

Most extra birds here end up on the grill... but Celadons are the exception— you can probably get a pretty good price selling them. I see them sometimes on Craigslist for about 20 minutes, then they’re sold.
