...and that boy has been in a tussle with someone, either Dutch or the Big Evil Women through the fence. The right side of his comb is a bit beat-up looking, LOL. The Welsummers are 12 weeks old now. This cockerel is a good boy so far. Likes to sit in my lap but when he heard something off balance outside today, he was ready to fight with hackles flaring, standing tall. I think he has good instincts. Sorry about the dirty building in the pics-we have these pounding rains that throw dirt two feet up the coop wall.

Thanks for posting the pics!

Hehehe, shy he isn't! He's actually very large and is just starting to do the mating thing, although obviously he wont be fertile for awhile yet. You never know how a rooster will be when the hormones start ramping up, so I'm watching him closely when I'm in the pen, just to see what he does. So far, he skitters out of the way when I reach for him, then turns around to face me, not in an aggressive manner, but just being smart and facing whatever is in his proximity. He watches me when one of the girls is struggling and screaming when I hold her, but seems calm about it. Even though he doesn't want me to pick him up, he will step into my lap when I sit on the log in the pen and talk to me, like the sociable guy I've seen since the beginning. The girls are much more skittish than he is. I need to handle them more, I guess.

Robin, my next layer will be my Easter Egger, June. She is 16 weeks old now, going on 17. Then this bunch in the 8x8 side of the coop are just 12 weeks old, which includes the Wellies; well, the New Hampshires and Nugget are a week younger. Then I have six who are about 8 weeks old in another coop.

SpeckledHen and Amazondoc, be sure to post pic of the boys from time to time as they matured! I would LOVE to see their full grown male testostroned feathers! Gleam and shine, they will!
