hi all! I hatched my second set of coturnix on June 10th and 11th and ended up with 5 perfect little guys and one that became cross legged as it grew. Not sure if I will cull that one yet as it seems ok for now. The weirdest thing is that it’s July 2nd, and I found an egg with them- they’re 3 weeks and 1 day old! Has anyone ever experienced this before? My last set didn’t start laying until 6 weeks on the dot- though it was winter when they hatched and much cooler. The new chicks are in the “hen house” portion of my coop (set up like a brooder) and it does tend to get up to 90 in there during this spell of hot weather we are having in the northeast. I’m not sure if the extra heat is causing them to mature faster.

I do have the two separated so there’s no way the original flock laid the egg I found.

Wow my 1st hatched batch hatched just before winter started. And they didnt even lay eggs till around 8 weeks old, cause its already winter at that stage. Now some of them are laying one eg daily, and some one egg every 2 days and some one egg every 3 days.

I think we got our first egg around 5 1/2 weeks, there was just one laying then around 6 weeks another started and most started 6-7 weeks. I get at least 5 eggs a day from 5 hens, sometimes I get 6-7 eggs a day. They sometimes lay 2!

Even my hens (chickens) will double lay once in a while.

We have A LOT OF EGGS!!!
