Hi,

We have two 10 week old chickens, one of which has just started laying. The egg is very small, I was just wondering if this is normal?

That's really odd, maybe she has abnormal ovaries or hormone issues? If she's not having any health issues I suppose it's not an issue but I'd give her extra calcium, like crushed egg shells or oyster shells. She's very young so I'm sure it will take a lot from her.

Hi :welcome You don't say what breed she is. It sounds to me very early to start laying. What are you feeding them. When they do start laying eggs tend to be small then the more they lay the bigger the eggs will get.

I would say it's not biologically possible, and be wondering how positive you were on age. I guess if you hatched the bird yourself and kept track of the weeks I could be wrong, but if you bought the bird and were told an age, I'm thinking that age was wrong.

I've had a red sex link start laying at 16 weeks, that was way early imo.

Is it possible someone snuck an egg in the egg box as a joke. A friend of mine had this happen. He was soooo excited! OF course he immediately started texting everyone because he was so excited and his friend fessed up. His wife still won't speak to this friend. haha
