What’s the youngest you have seen a pullet lay an egg? 20 weeks? 18? 16? What breed were they?
I’m a first timer with 15 girls, and as much as I love seeing everyone’s “first egg” picture I’m GREEN WITH ENVY!!! :drool
Can’t wait to get my hands on some eggs and I’m so impatient! My pullets still have tiny, pale, itty bitty baby combs so I imagine I’m quite far off. They won’t be laying in earnest until winter starts (in MI) so it’s going to be strange timing all around. I just can’t seem to wait!

12 weeks down.... how many to go?!

I have 8 pullets @18 weeks:
4 EE's, 2 Comets, 1 BO, 1 BSL,...no eggs yet!
2 PB 15 weeks...no eggs yet
2 SG 13 & 14 weeks...no eggs yet.
1 comet 6yrs old..1-2 eggs a week ( but she plays rooster)
1 brabanter 6 years old...6 eggs a week. She's the superstar!

I feel your pain!
Lots of food for them...none for me! Lol

Yeah, definitely in the breed. Ive had some lay at 14 weeks (cali whites) to almost a year (EE).
I got some that were best suited for free range. Keeping them cooped was a nightmare! I think their unhappiness kept my other pullets from laying! I rehomed them to a free range farm and the peace in my coop brought about eggs. Best to get the breed that best fits your and the hens needs and your environment...because in the end they all lay eggs 👍

My first egg from my Black Australorps came at 19 weeks, 2 day. Two days later, a second started laying. The third was about 22 weeks. I wasn't sure until I got three eggs in one day.

Oh, the waiting... I know eggszactly what you are going through!

I have 3 each of the following:
  • Welsummers
  • Light Brahmas
  • Black sex links (probably my best hope for the first eggs!)
  • EEs
  • Olive Eggers
