Your 2025 Garden

Pics
The dogs alerted us in the wee hours last night that the bear was searching for a midnight snack. He broke into the wooden storage attached to the house where the unburnable trash is kept. Over the winter he broke the bolt from the latch so Brother has been using a rope to secure it until after his surgery and the weather would allow a more permanent fix.
This time, the hungry bear tore the latch right off the door and took two bags up to a part of the orchard before tearing into them and leaving a mess for me to pick up. at least it's not snowing and the wind is calm this morning so it was a fairly quick job. The apple buds are almost ready to open.

We lost a few of our cabbage, broccoli, & cauliflower plants due to the pounding rains. They were some that were very small plants that we knew would have a rough start. We have collard plants that will be ready in few days that we will put in their spots.
🎼 Oklahoma where the wind comes sweeping down the plains. 🎶

Apparently Oklahoma is getting typical Oklahoma spring weather. The son has reported the winds have taken multiple panels out of the inexpensive greenhouse from Sam's Club. After the rains subsided and enough water soaked into the ground he could walk - rather than wade - across the back yard he brought everything into the house. He got most of them but the chickens did eat a few.

I have always admired these cloches but the practical part of me acknowledges yours are not only cheaper, they'd be easier to store when not in use.

Agreed. And we didn't get frost. But better to cover than lose plants.

The annuals I just transplanted are blooming already: vincas, portulaca, and marigolds.

I replanted the Fordhook zucchini that didn't germinate, bottom right, with Black Beauty zucchini.

Planted dill around the tomatoes and squash, to see if it helps with pests. And added marigolds, mainly because I love them.

I wish we could leave our current run up when we build the new coop/run, because it would make a great small greenhouse. But we're going to need the wood for the new one.

(I know it's too close to the gas meter. Dad and I didn't have much of a say in where it was built. Also, you might notice that thin yellow wire wrapped around the pipe. It isn't attached to anything, it doesn't lead anywhere, and it's been there since we moved in 15 years ago. We have no idea what it's for so we haven't removed it 🤷‍♂️). It gets WARM in there as soon as the outside temps get over 60. Even with the windows cut out. I can imagine growing herbs and some other smaller veggies in there. Only problem is we don't have a faucet on this side of the house so watering would be tedious.

We haven't started on anything yet. I think we're more focused on improving things for the chooks this year. Still, we do want at least a small garden. Tomatoes, if nothing else. They always do well here.

Those are the two zucchini types I planted last summer. I don't recall being able to tell the difference between them, as far as taste. I think the Fordhook plants grew a little better and produced a bit more.

I'm not sure producing more zucchini is a big selling point, however.
