This year I'm planting mine on woven vinyl ground cover to keep soil from splashing up them when we get heavy rains. I just looked at our radar and it looks like your area of the state is getting a monsoon. Stay safe as it is the season for windy conditions.

I'll be interested to know how that works out--the idea is that the soil contains the virus/blight? I planted some Amish Paste this past year that didn't seem to get the blight, but they didn't bear until fall.

I have to tell the story of Cow Flop Cake.

It's an incredibly rich chocolate cake. I got the recipe from a friend. It's baked in a springform pan, and the leavening is egg whites, beaten stiff. It rises nicely, but settles as it cools.

My friend said the first time she baked it, she took it out of the oven, lovely domed top. Wait 15 minutes, then remove the outer rim. She said when she went back to the kitchen to remove the rim, she called her daughter in and said, "What does this look like?" "Mom, it looks like a giant cow flop."

Thus the name, cow flop cake. She calls it that when she takes it to a pot luck, too.

I made it and it got renamed That Chocolate Cake. As in, "Sally, are you going to bring that chocolate cake to the company potluck?"

Another nice name for it could be Meadow Muff Cake.

I check the grow table 3 times a day for misting the drying areas of the trays. To my surprise tonight I've got tomatoes and even peppers up. Very happy with getting some paprika peppers up and growing. No eggplant yet. Once some of everything is up I'll get a picture with my wife's phone. She has a better camera and wide angle view than I have.

We have tobacco and tomato virus pathogens in our soils so it seams. Not knowing the history of this land that once was a terraced farm that probably grew peanuts can cotton there is no way to know what I'm dealing with.

Today is Potato Planting Day.... Well for some. Skipping potatoes and Sweet Potatoes this year. Two much work for so little return. Got to eradicate the fire ant pests which is impossible here. I need to get a handle on a container method if I want to grow potatoes.

I am planting potatoes again this year but it is still cool and wet here so I will wait a little longer before planting.

I have some more seed to start so will be doing my gardening inside for now.

I don't now if I've already mentioned this or not but we will be planting some great northern beans this year right out of bag off the shelf at the grocery store. Same with black eyed peas. My parents never bought seed for beans or southern peas. Just what they bought as groceries worked fine. Even Lima bean seed I think.
