It appears to be stuck into the ground and is connected to the pipe.Even though it isn't connected to anything at all?
It does go deeper into the ground than I thought/remembered... But it isn't connected.
I did a google search, I think it's a tracer wire.
Three tomato sprouts are up in the green house! Two in the "hook" stage and one is a pair of tiny leaves.

The bear was back last night. The new hasp worked so well, Ursa decided to rip the entire door off its hinges. The dogs alerted on him/her just before 11. S/he dropped the trash and didn't return for the rest of the night. That didn't stop the Great Pyrenees from keeping up the alert until at least 2:30 when I finally dropped off.
On a better note the tomato seeds I started when I first arrived in NY are finally popping out of the soil. I felt like an expectant father waiting for his first child to arrive. But then the years I spent as a midwife in younger days has taught me that babies arrive when they're ready. Besides the tomatoes, Hubbard squash and Big Max pumpkins are up. They'll both be going down in the swampy area where they can drink up all the water they desire thus leaving the garden area for pie pumpkins and butternut squash.

Meanwhile back in Oklahoma, the temps have already hit 90. The pineapples didn't care for so much sunshine so soon after easing them back outdoors . The sticks in the bigger ones are due to their native habitat has not allowed them to develop resistance to as much wind as these are now subject to. The background shows so many missing panels from the greenhouse, it makes me question if I should replace them or just go ahead and invest in sturdier materials and build a proper glass enclosure.
The Bonfire Peach meanwhile is loaded with little fuzzies already. This is it's third year and even though the peaches are definitely not for fresh eating, it is so ornamental it has earned its place. The peaches can be used for pie apparently and I've got the Belle of Georgia for juicy, warm from the sun, delicious sweetness. I normally wait to thin fruit until after the natural drop over the next few weeks.
Also of note, McDiver is trying to find a peaceful place to lay her clutch. The ducks normally sleep on the floor of the chicken coop and she usually lays in the same nest. Before I came out to NY she'd chosen a quiet corner of the wood pile but then the dogs were wrestling around near there so she abandoned it. I'm thinking I'll allow spring fever to do its thing with her as Rouans are not known to be the most broody so this is sorta special ... if no one disturbs her.

I weeded the small bed by the greenhouse yesterday. This bed has EWO, carrots, garlic and a few strawberries.
Potatoes are growing well and i hilled them the first time. It was a beautiful day so i started putting in the tomatoes and marigolds.. Hope to finish planting tomatoes today.

It was 15°F yesterday morning and is 17°F this morning. Not time to plant anything yet.
Those are usually our lowest night time temps of winter. I don't think we will get that cold again until next January. I hope not anyway!
It was in the 80's yesterday. I almost broke a sweat. We've been running about 40's-60's at night. Wouldn't you know they lowered Wednesday night to 39. Hopefully no lower or I will be covering my newly planted tomatoes.
My muscles are sore this morning. The coffee needs to kick in to give me some energy so I can get back at it.
It was beautiful here yesterday! High 40s/low 50s in the morning and got up to 65. Today I woke up to 35⁰ and rain/snow mix. Bleh...
When do you generally get relatively stable springtime temps up there? May? June?
