Your 2026 Garden

I set up 48 pots in the green house today. I filled the pots with potting soil and watered it well. I have clear totes over them -- sort of a green house inside a green house -- because we're going to have freezing nights later this week. I also covered the tables with black fabric to help them warm up. I plan to do another 30ish pots in the next few days.

I have not planted any seeds. I'm going to wait until Wednesday and watch the noon weather report to see what the next week's temps will be like.

I aim for planting around the first of April.

It looks like the city will be turning on irrigation in the first week of May so that's when I will be planting.

That's 78 pots! Whoa! What's all going in there besides the usual tomatoes? I may do 12 lol, just some marigolds.

Lots of tomatoes, to be sure. I'll probably do 50-60 pots of them. A few may be for friends, if they want them.

I'll do a few marigolds; they seem to help repel some bugs. Though they are attractive to Japanese Beetles, which I gather for the chickens to eat.

I'll start some butternut squash. Ours and the ones a friend gave me were delicious. The ones I bought from the farm stand were... meh. So we need more of our own.

I think I'll start some cucamelons. Those are just for me, as hubby doesn't care for the crunch of the skin. Most don't make it back to the house; they are a garden snack for me.

We have hubby's hot peppers started here inside under grow lights.

Last year, my tomato plants got pretty big in the green house. Enough so that I took cuttings from a few. I rooted them in water and potted them up, and they did fine.
