Your 2026 Garden

I have jalapeno, Bulgarian Carrot, and Sugar Rush Peach peppers overwintering in a bay window right now. I cut them way back, but they have grown new leaves and the jalapenos are flowering. I won't have good temperatures to set them out until May.
hmm i wonder should i have cut them back more. yours sound like they are doing well!

I get seed catalogs in the mail but generally speaking Burpee is my go-to for both seeds and sets or crowns if I'm looking for those and their website is easy to use and they always have coupon codes. The seed catalogs for me I love flipping through them and I honestly miss when people used to get catalogs in general I feel like flipping through those satisfied my window shopping desires and I spent less money because I could still get that shopping feeling without actually having to buy anything or if I wanted it, I had to want it enough to call and order or send the slip in 😂

I created my spreadsheet the other night with all my seed starting and direct sow dates for this coming year it's going to be below 20° for the daytime highs until the end of February at least so I still have a while to go, but just started my cold stratification with my lavender and perennial herb seeds so they'll do five to six weeks of cold stratification before germination so those are in the fridge now in starter cells to then actually germinate and seed start in February with my other stuff! 🌱

LORD JESUS willing I will be ordering seeds soon!! This year I want to focus on greenbeans, cucumbers and flowers!!! I will probably want to add a few other things, but those are the main ones! Oh and sunflowers! The children LOVE growing sunflowers!
I harvested seeds from my sunflowers for the first time, in the fall. They were so good!
This is the first time I have tried to overwinter peppers so I will let you know how it works out. So far so good.
I overwintered peppers a few years ago. They all died and I had to use my starts. Hopefully you have better luck!

Not sure it makes much difference on lasting in storage. Were they smaller or pretty large? And yes, chickens love zucchini and cucumbers another favorite is kale they love it! We have a pretty large garden always plenty for our girls!
They were big and fat. I’m guessing around 18” long. I have a picture of them eating one on my PC but on my iPad.

i have never grown tomatoes in my house (please tell how it works out!)
This is my first time starting anything that’s not going outside. I’ll post updates how it’s going as normally we wouldn’t be doing this until March and wouldn’t need to buy a grow light.

The reason is in the 10 years of being out here, the blight is so bad even blight resistant tomatoes got blight. We did every trick in the book to beat it. Last summer was my last attempt. No garden dirt. I bought potting soil and 4 large pots that you water from the bottom. We put them on the opposite end of the property as the garden. They were disease/blight resistant. I sprayed with neem for whatever that was worth. They missed the early blight so I did get some tomatoes but they got the late blight. I quit.

So here we are trying this idea.

There are smaller varieties - the Silvery Fir seeds I got are only supposed to get around two feet tall, and I believe someone brought up microdwarf tomatoes a while back although I don’t remember the variety names off the top of my head. Tiny Tim maybe?
