Your 2026 Garden

My seeds are ordered and should arrive soon, from Seed Savers. Some seeds are saved from the previous year.
This year I want to get cattle panels for my cucs, pole beans and squash, I usually would plant those next to the fence but the deer ate the vines last year before they grew enough to survive. The squirrel population has exploded and they eat the sunflowers before they can completely flower. I'd love to see what others have done with cattle panels in their gardens.
It's good to have this garden page and would be nice to see members include their growing zone.
I also want to plant a new apple tree this year, and want to find a source for Hawthorn trees.

Barn cats and some dog breeds are very good at controlling the varmint population.

7A. What's yours? ..... Although I personally think it's more useful to know the summer highs and waterfall averages.
I also ... want to find a source for Hawthorn trees.
I'll see if Brother has any little ones coming up in the field under his big one that he can dig and send. Remind me in a few months after the snow melts and the ground thaws. Late May early June. He's zone 3B.

Sometimes a stray will wander onto your property unexpectedly - or so it seems. Just saying. 😸
I know!! that's how we have gotten some good cats ❤️ we recently had a stray around for two months, I was feeding it and put a box under the porch with a blanket hoping it would stay but it wouldn't come close to me so I could help it, now I havn't seen it and the food hasn't been touched all week : (

Sadness.

Are these any good? I bought a plant... it didn't make it. I've read they're a "superfood" so I thought I'd give it a try.
I got four plants a couple of years ago from my sister in Minnesota, who grows them for their health properties. I've never tasted one yet, but she said they are akin to cherries, fruity, a bit tart.

She told me just keep them away from our blueberries as they won't like that soil, keep them moist the first year, after that, they don't need anything unless a drought.

We mulched them last winter, and they came back and doubled in size, but no fruit yet.

If you can find anyone else with one, they'll root if you stick a cutting in water. We did that with a branch that broke off when we were planting them. If you can't find any, let me know and I can send you a couple in the spring.
