My seeds are ordered and should arrive soon, from Seed Savers. Some seeds are saved from the previous year.
This year I want to get cattle panels for my cucs, pole beans and squash, I usually would plant those next to the fence but the deer ate the vines last year before they grew enough to survive. The squirrel population has exploded and they eat the sunflowers before they can completely flower. I'd love to see what others have done with cattle panels in their gardens.

I use cattle panel trellises for beans, too, but couldn't find a clear photo.

And they can be used to protect plants from cold weather.

Gardener Scott on YouTube is where I learned about making trellises from cattle panels.

You can skip to 2:45 which is where he starts creating a trellis.

I think I've already shared about the wood in my raised beds rotting away after two years. I started rebuilding them with "cinder" blocks.

But I ran out of blocks, and didn't want to put wear & tear on my little SUV.

When I retired I received my accrued PTO (vacation/sick time) in my last paycheck. I decided to invest it in my garden rebuilds.

The blocks were delivered today.

I made cattle panel trellises for my garden boxes last year, I love them.

There are a few blue pines with the Blue Spruce being the most popular.

There are a ton of green ones, with White Pine being what we think yours is. The Norway pine also has similarly long needles, but white pine needles are softer and a bit lighter in color.

I can't win for losing. My tomatoes sprouted. I had put vicks on the rims and that kept Stella the cat from digging in them like everything else around here. Until they sprouted. She bit the tops off of one in each and both in another. I had planted two in each, and two came up.

I nearly was crying, so hubby said he'd build a cage. Now we have a HWC frame on top of a box so she can't get them.

How much light do you think is blocked by the HWC? He thinks none, but there must be.

I don't think the HWC will block appreciable light.

Ditto what your husband and fuzzi said.

Also, unless she bit off all but the cotyledons (the first two leaves out of the seed) she helped the plants get bushier. What a helpful little kitty. OTOH if she did chew them down to the nubbins, well, you're supposed to choose just one per plug anyway. What a helpful kitty. Maybe grow some cat grass (rye oats, wheat, and/or barley) just for her. What a helpful kitty
