Your 2026 Garden

I tried but I think its still too young they didnt really smell like anything yet but also know chamomile is mild so i may just not have a strong enough nose šŸ˜‚
I'm actually shocked at how fast it came up after I finished the cold stratification. I thought for sure the 2 mints would come up first after hearing all the stories over the years of how hardy and vigorous mint is haha ive never grown it before for that reason and figured this year id make a contained mint and herb 4 inch raised bed inside the run with hardware cloth on top so the chickens have unlimited herb buffet that they cant scratch up to smithereens haha

i think the mint stories are once they get going... they will multiply! contained is definitely a safer bet.

Yeah I figured if they proliferate like that they'll probably be able to keep up with the chickens pecking at them more than most other herbs and figured some peppermint and Mountain mint might freshen the smell of the coop as well šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

my weirdos don't eat most of the things i plant. i mean. i guess it's good because they aren't wrecking my garden, but they are soooo picky! i think i have broken chickens.

i never thought of that! but the only reason they have so much choice is to figure out what they actually like!
i have literally been chopping up grass and mixing in blueberries and sunflower seeds and they are very excited about that.
grass!
what the whole outside is made of!

My hens prefer things from the yard that are considered weeds & were already here when I moved here.
Never having lived in a high desert area before I had to look everything up to see if it was safe for chickens. I found one that's a NO: Oxalis, & 2 that are YES: Creeping Charlie & Purple Dead Nettle.
So when they come back in in the spring I will have some happy hens. I have my son mow around the largest patches.
