Your chicken preference??

Do you prefer mixed breeds of chickens or purebred? Which is better to have, one breed or more? I'm having a hard time deciding if I just want a combo of chickens or if I want just one or 2 breeds....I thought I wanted several diff breeds with hens & roos for each....then thought about just a roo or two and diff breeds of hens....now I'm not sure. I'd like to know what everyone else has and why you chose to go that route.

I've only ever had Australorps and New Hampshire Reds.
I chose the Australorps because I just loved that sheen they have. About 15 years ago I ended up with the NHRs because an old lady friend had a strain that she had been working on for about 50 years, and she had a biddy appear out of the bushes one day with babies of unknown lineage (she bred VERY selectively), and she didn't want them. Since then I have just never had any others breeds.
I love looking at all the kinds I could get, but I never seem to - I'm a creature of habit, I guess!!

I'm very new to chickens, but I got mine based on personality and egg color

I also need to be able to tell them apart - I'm bad enough with names as it is!
(I still can't tell my two Cali whites apart - although my son can!)
