Your choices for docile bantam breeds??

All of my chickens are Bantams, but the ones who always want to get in my lap and will sit there and fall asleep are the Mille Fleur D'Uccles. I have two, Laverne and Shirley, and they are absolutely the sweetest things. Got them in a "feather-footed Bantam mix" and I love all my Banties, but they are something special.

Depends on the size of bantam you want?? My three choices as I have some of each and they are all great and doscile: bantam orpingtons, cochins and serama's.

Despite the game bird name, my OEGBs have always been very sweet pets. I don't really handle them much and they're still very sweet. I just love this breed. The roosters look like old fashioned roosters, just the way a barnyard rooster should look, and the hens look like little partridge or quail. Plus, they're so tiny. I think the only smaller chickens are the Seryamas, which I also like, although I've never owned them.

The American Serama was developed to interact with people and is very docile to work with and handle.

Their small size makes them ideal for a first bantam.

Thanks everyone for your input.
I have been looking up information and photos of the Mille Fleurs d'uccles and love how they look!

I know nothing about the Faverolle breed, but will definitely investigate them.
I know the Orps and Cochins are adorable, friendly and supposedly good egg layers and brood Momma's.

As soon as my 10 day old assortment gets a bit bigger, I will know for sure what breeds I have currently so that I can get to know them and then begin planning for next Spring...of course to ADD more chick breeds...it's that chicken math thing!!!

Thanks again!!

well we have several...

my banty cochins are beautiful and sweet and calm and nothing bad to say about them, the roos on the other hand tend to be quite aggressive.

We have a porcelain d'uccle that is very docile and good w/ us and now that she is almost 4 she is willing to let you sit and hold her but it took a few years! She is not however very nice w/ the other hens. She's got some attitude and definitely up there on the peckking order.

I LOVE my little OEG banty's they have been my favorites! They are tiny and sweet and will sit in your hand and coo at you and follow you around the yard.

but my little dark brahma that I just got this year is quickly growing close to my heart. She curious and sweet and sits and "talks" to me. Tonight while i was in filling up their food bins she flew up and sat on my back and shoulders and "groomed" my hair for me!. The only other one I've had that would voluntarily jump into my arms was my OEG banty's.

The two bantam breeds I have are Seramas and Modern Game Bantams. And both are such amazing little birds!

I have a trio of adult Seramas right now and I cannot say enough about how fantastic they are. They are calm and not flighty. They are well with kids. You can tote them around wherever you want, sit them on your lap. The rooster is so sweet to people, his ladies, and his babies. Every night I go to check on them and the two hens are tucked underneath his wings. And under the hens are the baby chicks! Every scrap he finds, he brings it to his girlfriends. He is just overall a super sweet guy. He always runs up to the door when its time to let out to free range. And the whole time I do yard chores, he is following me around. The hens I have are actually fantastic layers. I have gotten an egg from them everyday with the exception of when they are broody. And when they are broody, they are protective, but not aggressive. And they are such lovely mothers! And the good thing about Seramas is the color variety. You never know what you are going to get!

It is said there are over 2500 different color varieties in the breed.

I also have one Modern Game Bantam hen. I did have her boyfriend, but he sadly passed away not too long ago. But he was just the sweetest little thing. Talk about a lap chicken! He would hop right into your lap and just snuggle with his eyes closed. He would find the best little treats for his hen. Not a mean bone in his body! Always stood guard above his hen. And he always loved to do his little dance for his hen. He was a hoot to watch!! So much personality! Then my hen is overall a super nice little girl. She just loves to be held. She also loves being a mom! She adopted one of our Serama chicks when he needed a mom to be with. She was a very dedicated broody and just loves her chicks! She also lays very well. About 5 eggs or so a week. They are very unique looking and really capture your eye.
