oh yea, yes they tend to go broody often (from what I've read) and good mothers.

It all depends on what you want - pretty eggs, lots of eggs, pretty chickens, tiny chickens, big chickens, cuddly chickens?

I wanted big cuddly chickens and beautiful eggs, so I chose welsummer, light brahma, cochin, easter egger, and barred rock. Out of all of them the cochin LOOKS the most cuddly but is the rudest bird. The easter egger is my favourite, closely followed by the light brahma. I highly recommend this chart:

You can use it to compare temperament, egg colour, egg production, and heat/cold hardiness. Good luck deciding!
